  1. TV OD: SYTYCD – Round 2…I'm bored.

    June 17, 2009 by me

SYTYCD S5 Top 20Yeah, so I’m kinda bored.

Love Kayla. She’s got that “it” factor.

I’m glad they brought Shane Sparks back, but none of the groups could pull it off, which was just sad.

Jonathan is a cutie-pie. I just want to cuddle with him.

    Bottom Three:

Ashley & Kupono, Asuka & Vitolio, Jeanine & Phillip.

  2. TV OD: SYTYCD – Round 1…Am I seeing double?

    June 17, 2009 by me

dancePhillip & Jeanine–Hip hop by Tabatha and Napolian…Thought she could have hit it harder, but it was good.

Vitolio & Asuka – Broadway by Thice…Yawn. Could have been so good. It’s freaking jazz! Come on. I like Vitolio’s story, but I am definitely skeptical of Asuka. I didn’t think she was really good in her audition. She seems awkward. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Jonathan & Karla-Cha-cha–I love when producers use strobe lights…don’t they know it adds nothing and looks bad on TV?! Anyway, they were great. I kinda love Karla. She’s got that cute “it” factor. Jonathan is like a long lost relative of a boy band…but whatever. Mary needs to leave her sexual frustration comments at the door! Geezus.

Evan & Randi-Jazz again! By Thyce again (are we running out of choreographer?) Oh, shoot Randi’s married. There goes the chemistry. Or maybe not. They do a pretty good job. I didn’t buy the chemistry. But I love Evan. Love him. He’s just such a cute underdog story. Randi…eh. I can take her or leave her right now.

Tony & Paris-Hip hop again! By Tab and Nap-Lord, do these people have stories. Paris gets in a car accident and can’t feel her left leg. Geezus. Tony…don’t really like him. He strikes me as a jock who occasionally dances to pick up girls. He’ll get weeded out. I actually liked Paris. Thought she dug deep and “hit it”. Tony was boring. They both didn’t get into it enough though…need to attack it, not just dance it. God damn strobe lights again!

Jason & Caitlin-Bollywood! By Nicul(sp?) Love it! Jai ho! I hate these stupid camera angles. Just keep on a two shot please! What’s with the kiss at the end? God, I’m tired after that number! Jason is great. I think he’ll go far. I like Caitlin, but she reminds me of Heidi from Season 2. Like she needs Mia to kick her in the ass and make her cry.

Brandon & Janette-Foxtrot. Damn it. I hate ballroom. But this is a new choreographer. (why don’t the introduce the choreographers?!) At least the music’s good (It’s Buble). God they look uncomfortable. But at least the lifts are well-done. Janette kinda dances like Snow from Season one. God I watch this show too much. Mary has botox?! No way, could’ve fooled me…yeah right. I kinda don’t like them as a couple though. They seem awkward. And Brandon smiles fakely.

Kupono & Ashley-Wade! Jazz! Crash test dummies! It’s craziness! 4 time dancer auditioner. Hmm…Nice freaky costumes. Oh, Wade, you have the craziest moves. It’s like the People Mover at DisneyWorld. Me thinks Adam Shankman doesn’t like Wade’s chorographer. They were actually really good. I like Ashley, she’s cute. Kupono…not sold yet. At least he’s got a memorable name. Wade for mayor of Danceland!

    Geezus this is getting long.

Ade & Melissa-Contemporary. With Mandy Moore. Yay! Prissy ballerina? Perhaps. We’ll see. She doesn’t look 29 at all. Love that. Oh god, Richard Marx song! Mandy sure likes the 80’s, doesn’t she?! (See Tainted Love from last season). Lordy those lifts are amazing. Aw, Adam’s crying! Cuteness. I like them because they’re subtle but powerful. Love Mandy Moore. Geezus, Mary needs to stop screaming. I’m not sure how Melissa would do in hip hop, but who knows. Anything’s possible on this show.

Max & Kayla-Samba…Louie Armstrong…hm…Again with the sob stories. Geezus. Max is ballroom, so he was awesome. This was actually really awesome. Geezus. Nice costume too. Kayla looks like a rock star vixen. She reminds me of another Sabre. Oh, Max. You remind me of Dimitri. We love Adam. He’s hilarious. Mary needs to stop screaming seriously.

Verdict: I’ll keep watching cause I love dance shows. But I keep comparing everyone to past seasons, which means no one is really standing out.

My fav: Ade & Melissa’s contemporary

    Bottom Three Prediction (BTP):

Phillip & Jeanine, Vitolio & Asuka, Tony & Paris

  3. Film Student for Life: Bottle Shock…shockingly charming.

    June 17, 2009 by me

bottleshockIt’s like: Cool Runnings (remember that movie!), except instead of Jamacian bobsledders, it’s underachieving wine makers, and instead of the Olympics, it’s a French wine competition. And it’s set in Napa Valley in 1976.

Star you’d know: Alan Rickman (Love Actually), Bill Pullman, Freddy Rodriguez (Ugly Betty’s Gio), Dennis Farina (Law and Order & Chicagoan!)

Synopsis: The story of the early days of California wine making featuring the now infamous, blind Paris wine tasting of 1976 that has come to be known as “Judgment of Paris”. It’s a charming take on the classic “underdog” story. A winemakers slacker son enters their family’s chardonnay into a French competition. The vineyard is near bankruptcy, and the chardonnay is brown (chardonnay, not supposed to be brown). Pullman is excellent as the overworked winemaker trying to get his slacker son (Chris Pine of Star Trek fame) to do something besides indulge in lots of wine and ladies. Alan Rickman is hilarious as the inventor of this “blind test”, whose real motivation was just to get out of his Parisian rut. And Freddy Rodriguez is perfect as the hardworking and often overlooked grape picker with a dream. And it’s a true story, which is always rather unexpected.

Verdict: If you liked Sideways and have never been to Napa Valley, screw open a bottle of two-buck Chuck and cozy up to Bottle Shock. (still streaming free on Netflix)
